ITA Coach of the Year
Winner of the 2009 Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Jim Bowers is pictured with Dennis Ralston. He's a former Davis Cup player/coach & multiple grand slam winner including the French & US Open. ITA Press Release: Bowers has led both the men’s and women’s College of DuPage tennis teams to multiple national titles since becoming head coach in 2004. Under Bowers’ guidance, the Lady Chaparrals finished 7-1 and placed third at the women’s NJCAA Championship in 2009. Since taking over the program, the COD women have won the Region IV tournament every year qualifying them for nationals, which they won in 2007 and 2008. The 2004-05 season, the first year he became the Head Coach, the men's team won the national championship and in 2004 & 2003, while Bowers was the assistant coach, he helped bring 2 more national titles to COD.
Jim Bowers has been coaching at the College of DuPage since 2003. During an 8 year span the Men's & Women's Tennis program collected 6 National Championships. The men earned 3 in a row while the women won, for the first time in COD's history, a national championship - not once, but 3 titles in 4 years. He has also taught overseas in Germany and in Malaysia where he was a coach for their Davis & Fed Cup Teams. During the winter he also coaches at the Vaughan Athletic Center in Aurora, Illinois; The Oak Lawn Racquet Club & Elmhurst Courts Plus Club.
    • Played varsity 4 years at LTHS. 3rd and 6th place doubles at state tournament and reached the round of 16's in singles.
    • Ranked #1 Doubles in CDTA in 16's & 18's with brother.
    • Graduated from COD and was All-American Honorable Mention Doubles in NJCAA.
    • Graduated from Eastern Michigan University, while on scholarship, and was All-Conference in the M.A.C., while playing #1 singles/doubles.
    • Match wins over Ohio State, University of Michigan, Notre Dame, University of Iowa, Michigan State, Western Michigan, Miami of Ohio, DePauw.
    • Played satellite tournaments in North America; SE Asia and has coached all over the world.
    • 2000 & 2001 USTA Illinois State Doubles Champion in Winnetka, IL.
    • 2009 & 2010 & 2012 USTA Vaughan Athletic Club Men's Open Doubles Champion.
    • 2012 USTA Oak Lawn Racquetball Men's Open Doubles Champion.
    • Recipient of the Wilson ITA College NJCAA National Coach of the Year Award for 2009.
    • 2010 Boys' 18 USTA Northern Illinois Team Cup Captain.
    • 2013 #1 ranked Individual Doubles Player in CDTA/USTA
